Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important official stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
